2009

March 9th arrive – departure March 14th, 2009

DEBRA WELD
Into to the NEW EXCITING BronzClay

artist workshop

Drench yourself in color, design & ideas with a new innovative product called BronzClay. An experience of a lifetime with a renown teacher for an intensive & fun 4 day workshop amid the beautiful tropical surroundings at the Hacienda Mosaico.

The long awaited BronzClay made its premier in July and now is being offered to you in this ultimate 4 day workshop. You will learn the basics of working with this NEW exciting metal clay that remains flexible when it is dry, which allows you a wide range of forming and sculpting techniques.

BronzClay has some incredible results of patina color during the firing process that will be discussed and demonstrated in class. Each piece will have its own color and characteristics and no two will be alike.

You will also learn the similarities of PMC and BronzClay and how they are different as we will combine the two.

We will explore different textures such as tear away sheets, rubber stamps, working with molds, carving, etc. You will also do a hollow form construction as well as gem setting.

These are the skills you will learn:
  • Understanding the process and discussing the properties of both the BronzClay and PMC.
  • Discussing patina colors that occur during the firing process and the procedure of firing and the options.
  • Carving and sculpting techniques of this new metal clay.
  • Make and working with your own unique mold.
  • Make jump rings, toggle clasps, and gem setting.
  • Hollow Form construction.
  • Basic pmc skills.

No experience is needed. Beginners as well as those with experience are welcome.

This is an open, non competitive creative atmosphere and consideration will be given to personal time and expansion of your own talent to ensure a rejuvenating experience and inspiration for creative work.

Students will return home with all the pieces for the different techniques demonstrated in class. We will have time however if students wants to make one Master Piece incorporating all the applications learned in class. (i.e.: Bracelet, pendant, earrings, etc.)

A supply list will be provided by the instructor prior to the workshop or you may purchase a materials kit ahead of time. Contact Debra about either the list or the materials kit or if you should have further questions.

Please visit Debra's website at:
http://www.debraweld.com/

Arrive on Monday, March 9, 2009 and enjoy a cocktail by the pool. Then those who choose to can go
out and enjoy a wonderful Mexican dinner at a nearby restaurant. The class starts the
next morning at 10 AM on the 10th and last for 4 days.
Check out will be Saturday morning March 14th.

The cost for this workshop is $1400. Includes 5 nights lodging, breakfast & lunch on class days. Price is based on double occupancy. (Please note: Does not include airfare or dinner)

Debra's classes fill quickly, so reserve your spot early.

Show Me the Color: Start to Finish

Sun. & Mon. May 31 & June 1  9:00am-5:30pm (with 1.5 hr. break)

Description: Students will make a pendant using PMC and copper. In the first part of the workshop, we will discuss, analyze, and explore ideas, color, content, and passions in the development of your piece through design. Students will then start the implimentation of their design by first working with the PMC backplate. You will also learn several designs for bails, and you will cut and solder a “poor man’s” pin back for the dual wear of your pendant. Then, you will saw out your copper top piece and go through the proper steps of cleaning, patina, and resting to get your piece ready for the color application. We will then cover the proper steps in the color application for the integrity and durability of your piece. You will have several pieces of copper to practice on prior to your final piece. After the two layers are completed, you will rivet the layers together with tube stilts and brass rivets. When class is over, you will be an expert on soldering, riveting, tube cutting, patinas, and pigment color.
